Coach Development Pathways
Introduction
Traditionally, coach development pathways have been linear in their design meaning that the more talented and qualified coaches tend to migrate toward the senior end of the men’s and women’s game.
However, the HKRFU believe that ‘all’ areas of the game require and deserve coaching of the highest quality and have adapted their current coach development model so as to encourage coaches to become ‘experts’ in their preferred area of coaching.
In practical terms this means that a coach within the mini and junior section of the game may progress to becoming a ‘master’ coach in this particular area, thus negating the need to progress towards adult coaching in order to pursue further coaching qualifications. With the strong mini and junior base in Hong Kong we feel this model best facilitates quality development of both our young players and coaches.
All HKRFU/IRB Coach Education courses are participation based which means that candidates are expected to take an active part (i.e. act as players) in each of the modules delivered, if their health and fitness levels permit. The level of activity ranges from low to medium intensity with candidates expected to wear the appropriate gear.
