Educational Scholarships

 

HKRFU Charitable Trust Fund Educational Scholarship

 

Introduction 

The HKRFU Charitable Trust Fund was set up to provide financial assistance to those committed rugby players who have satisfactory scholastic achievements with needs for financial support. The Scholarships will be awarded at the discretion of the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union Charitable Trust Fund Committee. 


Duration of Scholarships 

Each scholarship will be tenable for a maximum of 5 years in primary, secondary schools, or tertiary institutions of Hong Kong, subject to the successful applicant achieving satisfactory academic progress and conduct in their school. 


Eligibility 

An applicant for the Scholarships must fulfill the following criteria: 

 

Be a Hong Kong resident at the date of the award. 

The current payment of his/her maintenance and living expenses is wholly or mainly discharged by a parent or guardian of limited means. 

Does not concurrently receive any other award/scholarships.

Demonstrate reasonable commitment to the playing of rugby as confirmed by his/her Rugby Club Chairman/Coach and endorsed by the School Principal. 

 

Demonstrate reasonable commitment of a minimum of two years to the playing of rugby as confirmed by his/her Rugby Club Chairman/Coach and endorsed by the School Principal.

Fulfill all application procedures and admission requirements of the education institution of his/her choice and be offered a place subsequently. 



Application 

The Charitable Trust Fund normally calls for application in August with a deadline of September for the current academic year. An application form can be obtained from Hong Kong Rugby Football Union office or website (see below). The completed Application Form should be submitted to HKRFU prior to commencement of studies (usually in Sept of each year) and together with the following documents: 



Copies of relevant certificates showing the applicant's results in recognized examination bodies/current school 


A copy of the notification from the school verifying receipt of the candidate's study (if available). 


A copy of the official document showing the applicant's school fees or requested fee for the academic year. 


Any other relevant information which will assist the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union Charitable Trust Fund Committee in reaching its decision including details of financial status of the applicant's family. 




Application Process


Applications for the 2009/2010 year are presently full.  Check back in summer for applications for hte 2010/11 School Year.  Any applications submitted after the deadline date will not be considered. Applicants please submit the original copy of the completed application form to:

A confirmation letter of received application forms will be sent out to applicants by email. 


Payment Procedure 

Grants will usually be released on a reimbursement basis against production of original receipts. 


Progress Report 

A record of voluntary services and record of rugby performance will be kept by the HKRFU staff and Club Chairman of the applicants to show the contribution of the successful applicants.
