The 2011-12 Standard Chartered Tertiary Beginners Sevens Tournament was held at the King’s Park Sports Ground on 17^th December 2011. This year a total of 33 teams – 23 men’s and 10 women’s, participated. The winners and results were:

Tournament Information

Format:	7-a-side Tackle (Teams will be split into men’s and women’s pool)
Entry fee:	Free of charge
Application method:	Fill in the team registration form and return it to Roy Law, HKRFU Tertiary Rugby Officer. (Maximum 2 men’s teams and 2 ladies teams for each institute, and each team entered must provide a registration form) To download Application Form:
Deadline:	30^th November, 2011
Prize:	Cup champion, plate champion, bowl champion, shield champion (men's only) Player of the Tournament (men's and women's)

Tournament Pools:

Men’s group (maximum 24 teams), 6 pools of 4 teams

Women’s group (maximum 12 teams), 4 pools of 3 teams

Number of players per team:

Maximum of 13 (7 starting and 6 on the bench)

Game time:

Pool games / quarterfinals / semi-finals: 10 minutes straight (no halves)

Finals: 7 minutes half, 2 halves, and 1 minute break

Pool Game:

Win – award 4 points; Draw – award 2 points; Lose – award 1 point; Absence – deduct 2 points (the absentee will lose 0:20, 4 tries)

If pool points are level when final pool games are played, standings will be based on the point’s difference to decide ranking of teams; if the point’s difference is the same, standings will be based on the try number to decide the ranking of teams.

Quarter finals / Semi-finals / Finals:

In the event of a tie during the quarter finals, semi-finals or finals, 5 minutes extra time will be given for “golden point”; if there is still a tie after 5 minutes, the team who score the first try will be named the winner; in the event that there are no try during the game the outcome will be determined by a coin toss.

Player eligibility:

All players must be new to the game of rugby and must not have had more they one year experience. (Either tertiary or senior level)
All players must be a part/full time student in this academic year.
Players cannot play for more than one institute.
All players can only represent the tertiary institute to which they are registered to study at.

Agreement of participants：

Participants have to agree with the HKRFU instructions and game rules. HKRFU staff and co-organizers will not bear any responsibility of player injuries or property loses; all participants should be in good physical condition before taking part in the competition; and agree with photographing in the competition.

Others:

All final decisions will be based in the referees’ judgment.
If any players behavior is deemed unacceptable or goes against the Laws of The Game the tournament organisers have the right to disqualify the team.
The match rules are based on IRB “Laws of The Game”.
