BIG DAY FOR DISCIPLINED SERVICES RUGBY!

26th Apr 2016

Last Saturday was a memorable day for Chairman Brian Yung and his Disciplined Services Rugby Committee, as their hard work over the past few years culminated in a number of exciting “firsts”.
The annual 3 tournament series of touch tournaments played amongst the Police, Fire Services, Customs, Immigration, Correctional Services, Auxiliary Police and CAS normally features an indoor event, then a beach competition, with the climax coming back on a traditional grass pitch, but never before had the finale been staged at the Disciplined Services Sports & Recreation Club in So Kon Po. Indeed this was the first time ever in the history of the DSSRC that an odd shaped ball had found its way onto their playing field, although judging by the rapid growth and recognition of both touch and rugby across all departments and ranks, we can hopefully look forward to more tournaments at the Club in the years ahead.
Meanwhile, a short punt down the road the Disciplined Services men’s 15s team were in action in the annual TK Lai fixture, held for the first time as part of the Taipan Day event at HKFC and another new departure saw the Tin Shui Wai Pandas step in as replacements for the usual opposition the PLA.
With Mr Lai, the Secretary for Security, on hand in person to meet the teams and present the trophy, the Services side were spurred on to one of their best performances of the season, and a 31-19 victory.
Back at So Kon Po, in the men’s draw the Cup winners were Correctional Services, with the Auxies taking the Plate and CAS the Bowl, while for the women it was celebration time for Immigration, with Customs taking the Bowl. That meant the overall Disciplined Services Touch Series Champions for 2015/16 were the Fire Services men and the Immigration women – congratulations not only to them, but all the players, coaches, managers and match officials who have made this such a successful and memorable season for Services rugby.
