The HKRU are saddened by the news that former CEO David Roberts passed away on Sunday in Hong Kong. Dave had not been well for some time, but had battled bravely as all who knew him would expect.

Dave was appointed CEO in 1992, and during the following 8 years also spent time as the Union's Marketing Director and was the Tournament Director of the 1997 Rugby World Cup Sevens, the first of the two editions of the event to be held in Hong Kong.

The period of Dave's tenure was one of great change in the rugby community with the challenges of the handover, the advent of professional rugby and the launch of the World Sevens Series, and Dave's contribution to the continued success of the Sevens and local rugby cannot be overstated.

A great friend to many, a true rugby man, he will be sadly missed - our thoughts are with Moira and the family.
