14th Nov 2022

MEDIA STATEMENT

Prior to the men’s final of the Asia Rugby Sevens Series held in Incheon, South Korea on 13 November, and as is customary, the national anthems of the two teams in the final were to be played - Hong Kong and South Korea.

The organisers initially played incorrect music for Hong Kong. This was brought to their attention and an apology was announced after the game. The March of the Volunteers was then properly played with the victorious Hong Kong team, who had just won the Cup. The HKRU expressed its extreme dissatisfaction at this occurrence and has received a full explanation of the circumstances that led to this. Whilst we accept this was a case of human
error it was nevertheless not acceptable. The HKRU has registered our deepest concern and regret over this incident.

Asia Rugby have expressed their sincere apologies and assured us it will not happen again.

Hong Kong look forward to participating in the third and final leg of the Asia Rugby Sevens Series in Dubai on 26-27 November.
