HKRU RESPONDS TO CHANGE.ORG PETITION AGAINST BANNING OF GIRLS RUGBY

19th Mar 2016

The Hong Kong Rugby Union has confirmed that the recent petition posted on Change.org claiming that the Hong Kong Government is calling for a ban on Girls contact rugby is unfounded.

While we appreciate the enthusiasm of members of our local rugby community who started this petition based on erroneous information we are pleased to inform the community that there is no risk of a Government ban on Girls rugby and advise members of the community that there is no reason to sign this petition.

The Hong Kong SAR Government are extremely supportive of our development, and indeed the Director of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will be attending the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong Women’s Rugby Sevens, while Ms Christine Loh, Under Secretary for the Environment for the HKSARG will help present the Cup.

We value this support and continue to work closely with the HKSAR Government on the promotion of sport for all in Hong Kong.

The HKRU is dedicated to the promotion of Girls and Women’s Rugby and indeed to the promotion of safe and enjoyable rugby and sport for all youth in Hong Kong.
