As rugby in Asia continues to go from strength to strength, HSBC is extremely proud of its longstanding partnership with the Hong Kong Rugby Union (HKRU).

HSBC has been delighted to support rugby as it has taken great strides forward in the region in recent years. Thousands of new fans have experienced the sport and new participants, teams and elite players have emerged in both the men’s and women’s games.

HSBC’s partnership with the HKRU has seen the two organisations work hand in hand to ensure rugby flourishes in the long-term and across all levels, from the grassroots through to the elite, demonstrating the HSBC brand promise ‘Together We Thrive’.

The organisation’s backing, which has spanned primarily across the Hong Kong National Teams, Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens and HSBC Try Rugby Programme, reflects its commitment to helping people succeed and achieve their ambitions.

Since 2011, HSBC has been the Principal Partner of the Hong Kong National Teams, across both the men’s and women’s and 7s and 15s from junior age-grade to senior level. This sponsorship was renewed in 2020 and HSBC is committed to continuing to help elevate the profile of local talent across both the men’s and women’s game.

One of the keys to accelerating the growth of rugby is bringing more young people into the game. HSBC’s support for rugby is not only at the elite level but extends to giving more young people in Hong Kong the opportunity to try the sport for the first time. HSBC has collaborated with the HKRU on a number of community-focused initiatives over the years, such as the HSBC Try Rugby Programme which has introduced more than 30,000 children to rugby in Hong Kong, reflecting a significant impact on growing the game.

HSBC’s support for rugby extends beyond Hong Kong, with the business delighted to be the title sponsor for both the men’s and women’s HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series as well as numerous other grassroots initiatives across the globe.
