KPMG EXPANDS SUPPORT FOR WOMEN’S RUGBY IN HONG KONG WITH NEW TROPHIES

At yesterday’sKPMG Women’s Rugby Day at King’s Park, the Hong Kong Rugby Union was delighted to announce the expansion of KPMG’s support for women’s rugby in Hong Kong with the launch of two new trophies. The goal is to provide additional incentives within the leagues below the KPMG Women’s Premiership, to support the continuinggrowth of the women’s game.

Starting todayinKPMGNational League 1 andKPMGNational League 2, trophies will be on the line weekly for those leagues’ respective teams, throughout the season. The holder will each week face a new challenger, offering an exciting extra dimension to the game and the league. The first games for the new silverware took place yesterday and saw Borrelli Walsh USRC Tigers 2 become the inaugural holders of the KPMG National League 1 Challenge Shield, beating Herbert Smith Freehills HKCC Ladies,27-5, and SCAA First Pacific CWB Lammergeier take home the KPMG National League 2 Challenge Shield, overcoming Kowloon Ladies 2,12-0.

Hong Kong Rugby Union Chief Executive Robbie McRobbie welcomed the development.

“These new trophies will spur competitiveness through all the divisions of women’s rugby in Hong Kong, providing additional motivation for players each week as well as giving fans an exciting new performance metric to follow through the season. We applaud and thank KPMG for their continued support for women’s rugby on behalf of all members of the Hong Kong rugby family,” he said.

The new trophiesare in addition to the twoalready supported by KPMG in the top division, the KPMG Women’s Premiership League Cupand the KPMG Women’s Premiership Grand Champions Cup.
