MATT WORLEY IS HEADING BACK TO HONG KONG THIS FEBRUARY TO REPRESENT HIS TEAM, RACING 92, IN THE NATIXIS RUGBY CUP

24th Jan 2018

Worley has represented Hong Kong at all age grade levels of his life, most recently showing his stripes in the Under-20 World Trophy in Uruguay in September. He headed overseas two years ago to join Racing 92’s academy team for a four week stint, which soon developed into a full time professional contract. Before long, Worley’s well-known hard work and perseverance earned him a spot training and playing in the first team, alongside the likes of rugby legends Dan Carter and Pat Lambie.

On returning to Hong Kong to play on his home ground for Racing 92, Worley said “To be part of such a big match like this in Hong Kong is incredible. I am very privileged and excited to represent my hometown in the Racing colours. It is an opportunity and experience I’ll never forget.”

During his playing stint in Hong Kong, Worley’s team was Hong Kong Football Club, who are just as excited to see him back and playing. HKFC Rugby Section Chairman, Ben Stobart, said “We are very proud of Matt. He is a great example of quality; not just of the HKFC rugby youth program but also of Hong Kong Rugby. More importantly it shows if you can find the right person, with the right mentality and character, top flight rugby is possible for youth players in Hong Kong.”

From Hong Kong, to France, we also caught up with Racing 92 Head Coach Laurent Labit on the addition of Hong Kong talent to the team. “This Hong Kong fixture is a great opportunity for Matt to show everything he has learnt at Racing 92… and for Racing 92 to show the effect of training with great players on talent such as Matt.”

Robbie McRobbie, CEO of the HKRU is also delighted to see Matt playing back on home turf: “It is a real thrill for all of us to see Matt’s progress with Racing 92, a reflection both on his own perseverance, determination and hard work and also on the growing strength of the Hong Kong rugby community and the resources being committed to support all levels of the game.”

Worley will be joining the rest of the Racing 92 team in an almighty clash of North versus South against the South African Super Rugby side, The Cell C Sharks. Join us, Saturday 3rd February, 4pm at Aberdeen Sports Ground. An afternoon of excellent rugby, mini rugby clinics, fun and festivities awaits.
