REFEREEING FIRST AS FATHER AND SON SELECTED TO TOUR

16th Dec 2015

As the Hong Kong Warriors prepare for their inaugural tour to the Philippines, A Hong Kong father and son refereeing combo have been doing the same. Experienced referee Pat Tiller and his son William will travel with the teams early next week and referee two matches each in Manila. Pat will referee the senior matches, whilst William will referee the junior games all against Philippine National Development sides.

This is a first for Hong Kong to have a father and son referee representative games. Pat has been involved in Hong Kong Rugby for many years and continues to referee and assistant referee at the top level. Will, aged 16, is a member of the HKRU Junior Academy and is showing great potential.

Hugh Watkins, HKRU Head of Match Officiating, believes that this is a great opportunity for Pat and Will to showcase their refereeing skills in another environment and to provide support to the Warriors Program. “Will has been refereeing for just over 2 years and is progressing well in the Junior Academy while Pat has given great service to the HKRU and therefore it is fitting for him to be selected for the tour to referee alongside his son”.

The HKRU Referee Department would like to wish both Pat and William good luck, and are confident they will do themselves and Hong Kong Referees proud.
