REMEMBERING DENIS PRITCHARD EVANS

18th Jul 2022

The HKRU were saddened to hear of the passing of our former Chairman Denis Pritchard Evans on 8th July.

Denis was an accomplished rugby player, coach and administrator. He won an international cap on the wing for Wales against South Africa in 1960 prior to his arrival in Hong Kong, and coached both HKFC and the Colony side. Off the pitch he took up the role of Secretary of the Union before serving a term as Chairman from 1978-80.

Rugby in Hong Kong came of international age during that time as evidenced by visits from Wales ,Scotland and France  as they stopped over on summer tours. Denis played a very significant role in making these games happen, and as the Sevens grew the good relations that had been fostered during those visits eventually paid dividends for Hong Kong.  After returning to UK he went on to become Secretary of the Welsh Rugby Union.

Denis is survived by his wife Janet and daughter Sally, and our thoughts are with them at this time.
