SCHOOLS A GRADE RUGBY REACHES CLIMAX

02nd Dec 2015

With the imminent approach of the Christmas holidays, it can only mean that once again the Hong Kong School Sports Federation A Grade 7s and 15s competitions are reaching their annual climax.

The 7s competition is divided into two regional pools, with secondary schools from the New Territories participating in one and those from Kowloon and Hong Kong Island in the other - this year there were 67 A Grade boys and girls teams entered across the board, a new record and illustrative of the way rugby continues to grow in the local community. From these competitions, that have been running over the past six weeks on Saturday mornings, the top four boys' teams from each region and the top 8 teams from the girls' combined league will move forward to the HKSSF Grand Finals in early May.

Who will battle their way through will be revealed this Saturday, with the NT Boys' and the Girls' Cup Finals scheduled for 12.40pm at King's Park while the HKI/Kowloon Cup Final will kick-off at the same time at Tai Hang Tung. The destinations of the Shields and Bowls were already determined last week, and it was particularly exciting to see the Union's newest "School of Rugby" programme institution, the Buddhist Fat Ho Memorial College from Tai O go home with the Bowl for the school trophy cabinet.

Meanwhile the A Grade 15s league competition, which features the stronger ESF and International Schools, will host their HKSSF Finals day on Thursday 17th December at HKFC. The Boys C Grade Cup Final will open the show at 4.15pm, followed by the Boys A Grade Final at 5.15pm and the Girls' A Grade Final at 6.35pm - this is a great opportunity to watch the stars of the future in action, and hopefully HKFC will have their excellent mulled wine and mince pies on sale again!
