STANDARD CHARTERED TERTIARY RUGBY INVITATIONAL SEVENS 2018

The 2018 rugby year continue with youth rugby action this weekend when the annual Standard Chartered Tertiary Rugby Invitational Sevens 2018 set foot on the newly laid King’s Park Sports Ground. 28 Men’s and 17 Women’s teams will take part in this year’s tournament; with such numbers, teams will separate into two divisions – Elite Division consist of 12 men’s and seven women’s teams, and the newly introduced Qualifier Division will feature 16 men’s and ten women’s teams.

Same as previous years, overseas teams have been invited to join the tournament. This year 4 overseas teams from Chang Jung Christian University, Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore and Xiamen University, will join completion, expecting a fierce contest over the coming weekend.

In the Men’s Division, defending champions Chang Jung Christian University from Chinese Taipei return, seeking title defense for the 6th consecutive years; with local favorite Baptist University looking for a change of guard. In the Women’s Elite Division, with the absence of last year’s champions China Agricultural University from Beijing, the competition is wide open, and a new winner to be crown.

Adding fun and care over the weekend, Cigna, together with NGO’s with the likes of Samaritan Befrienders, Kely Support and Darkness into Light, will have their official launch of the CIGNA PLAYER WELFARE MONTH; with the objective to arouse public awareness and the importance regarding both physical and mental health. Other activities at the Cigna Player Welfare booths include demonstrations from inclusive rugby, where participants can get a taste of events like wheelchair rugby, deaf rugby, and sign language games, to promote an inclusive and barrier-free environment. Last but not least, don’t miss out the Natixis Rugby Cup 2018 game booth to win some exclusive match goodies, and rub shoulder with the likes of legend Dan Carter!

Plenty of rugby actions and fun this weekend at King’s Park, with the tournament kicking off from 10 am and runs through until 6 pm this Saturday – See you there!
