THE PLK ONE23 DANCE TROUPE PERFORM DRAGON TRY FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 2023 STEPPING UP TO THE INTERNATIONAL STAGE - THE HONG KONG SEVENS

04th May 2023

The Po Leung Kuk ONE23 Dance Troupe performed a dance on the first day of 2023 Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens, in front of tens of thousands of spectators. Titled ‘Dragon Try’, the dance is a cultural blend of East and West, incorporating the sport of rugby. Fourty rugby balls, exclusively designed by Harry Harrison, the South China Morning Post’s political cartoonist, are choreographed into the dance. All proceeds of this rugby ball will go to the Rugby For Good Foundation for its sport-for-development projects.

Rugby For Good, formerly known as the HKRU Community Foundation, has been sponsoring the Buddy Rugby programme, to bring together students from mainstream and special education schools, and uses rugby, and now dance, to break down prejudice and build understanding and friendship. Buddy Rugby programme is marking its fifth anniversary in 2023.

Robbie McRobbie, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Rugby Union remarked, “Inclusivity is a value at the very heart of rugby. We are happy to provide a platform for students to communicate and demonstrate their talents.”

Loretta Y. M. Lam, Principal Education Secretary (Secondary & non-local curriculum schools) said, “This is a very precious opportunity that, brings together students from mainstream and special education schools, showing the world of Love, Care and Inclusion. ”

Participating in the Hong Kong Sevens, fostering teamwork among students from secondary, primary and special education schools, and providing a platform for the students to showcase their daily learning achievements.
