VALLEY SET UP REMATCH AGAINST TIGERS IN KPMG GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

03rd Feb 2020

Societe Generale Valley advanced to the KPMG Top 4 Grand Championship final next Saturday at Kings Park after beating Natixis HKFC 46-0 in a closed door semi final last Saturday night.

Valley will meet defending grand champions Borrelli Walsh USRC Tigers in the showcase match of the season this Saturday, setting up a rematch of last year’s 13-8 thriller when Tigers picked up their first club grand championship in 11 years.

Tigers advanced past Gai Wu in the other semi-final played prior to the Lunar New Year break and are now on collision course with Valley, who pushed its season-long unbeaten streak to 13 games after the big win over Club.

“It wasn’t an easy win at all,” said Bella Milo player coach at Valley post-match.

“Club were really aggressive but our forward pack gave us a great set piece and that allowed us to play our wide game.”

The pack did more then just set the platform against HKFC, they drove the scoring for the visitors, who led 32-0 at half-time, behind two first half tries from No.8 Olivia Coady, who completed the hat trick with a try to start the second half.

Milo also added two tries in the first stanza with Hong Kong sevens players Colleen Tjosvold and Jessica Eden both adding scores in the first 40 minutes.

Coady completed the trifecta after 48 minutes, followed by Rebecca Thompson’s try on full-time, but HKFC managed to hold the Valley attack to only two scores after the break. Milo is aware of the slow-down and is keen to ensure that her side does not let up now.

“We started well but struggled a bit in the second half, which is something we will look to clean up this week in training,” Milo added.

The week ahead promises to be intense in the Valley given the club has been in a similar undefeated position on the eve of the last two grand finals, only to lose both to Gai Wu and Tigers.

With the quest for a perfect season again in reach, Valley will need to double down on its focus for Milo.

“This week is purely about us,” she said.

“We have worked hard all season long, refining the way we want to play this season and Saturday is about doing exactly that, executing our game plan.”
