Recycling Bin Design Competition

Introduction

Hong Kong Rugby Union, Environment Bureau and the City University of Hong Kong jointly present the Green Sevens Student Programme - Recycling Bin Design Competition (“the Competition”). We invite all youth talents to exert their imagination and creativity in designing and making a recycling bin that best demonstrates the theme of this year’s programme - “Striving Towards a Recycling-Oriented Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2017 through Creativity: Putting Ideas into Action”.


Eligibility

Both Secondary (Senior) and Tertiary students can form teams to join the competition. Submitted work will be divided into two groups for evaluation. Please see below for detailed specifications of eligibility for each group:

Secondary (Senior) Student Group Tertiary Student Group
1. Age: 20 or below

2. Team Formation Criteria:
- All team members should be secondary 4 to 6 students studying in a secondary school in Hong Kong
- Size: 4-8 members

1. Age: 25 or below
2. Team Formation Criteria:
- All team members should be pursuing Diploma, Higher Diploma, Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in a local registered tertiary institution in Hong Kong
- Size: 4-8 members

Students from all disciplines are welcome!


Why Join the Competition

The winning team(s) of Secondary (Senior) Student Group will: The shortlisted teams of Tertiary Student Group will:
1. Turn the design into real

2. Display their brilliant recycling bin in the Stadium during the 2017 Hong Kong Sevens for on-site plastic collection

3. Receive a co-branded certificate signed by Hong Kong Rugby Union, Environment Bureau and the City University of Hong Kong

4. Gain entry pass(es) of the 2017 Hong Kong Sevens for on-site promotion

5. Win an opportunity to display their commended work in other places after the end of the Rugby Sevens Game, including a shopping mall and school

5. Win a special Cathay Pacific / HSBC Hong Kong Sevens event poster signed by all 28 team captains

6. Win an opportunity to display their commended work in other places after the Rugby Sevens Game, including a shopping mall and school



Judging Criteria and Scoring System for Selecting the Winning Team

Criteria Weighting Assessment
Utility 40% The total amount of on-site plastic collected
Adaptability &
Relevance to the theme
30% Judgement from the panel of judges, including the representatives of Hong Kong Rugby Union, Environment Bureau and the City University of Hong Kong
Creativity &
Attractiveness
30% Result from the on-site survey which indicates how public perceives the design’s creativity & attractiveness.


The applicants of Secondary (Senior) Student Group with the highest score of the submitted proposal will become the winner.

The shortlisted teams of Tertiary Group with the highest score will win a prize for praising their creativity and effort.

The Hong Kong Rugby Union and organising committee reserve the final decision to display the winning design in Hong Kong Stadium during the Hong Kong Sevens.

All teams are required to apply online by 28th February 2017.

All the proposals will be screened by the panel of judges, including the representatives from Hong Kong Rugby Union, Environment Bureau and the City University of Hong Kong. The shortlisted teams will receive an email acknowledgment in 1st March and will receive HKD 800 allowance for constructing their design.
