BLOG 3 - Get to know the DHL Stormers

Following on from our previous blog ‘Get to know the Hito-Communications Sunwolves’, the attention now shifts to their Cape Town based opponents the DHL Stormers for round 14 of the Super Rugby competition.

Ex Springbok and current Head coach Robbie Fleck boasts a number of current Springboks at his disposal, and stand out names will be club captain Siya Kolisi, national team captain Eben Etzebeth, fellow forward Pieter-Steph Du Toit and a name all HK 7s enthusiast will know, Seabelo Senatla.

For those who are not part of the DHL Stormers fan club, The Faithful; here is an introduction on the players to look out for at Mong Kok Stadium on May 19th 2018:

Name: Siya Kolisi

Super Rugby: 76 appearances (DHL Stormers)

South Africa: 28 appearances

Biography: With 31 Currie Cup and 4 international tries under his belt, Kolisi is captain for the 2017/18 season.

Name: Eben Etzebeth

Super Rugby: 42 (DHL Stormers)

South Africa: 67 appearances

Biography:  SA Rugby Young Player of the Year (2012 and 2013); Nominee for IRB World Player of the Year (2013). Spent 2015/16 season playing in Japan with NTT DoCoMo Red Hurricanes.

Name: Seabelo Senatla

Super Rugby: 8 appearances (DHL Stormers)

South Africa: 193 appearances for South Africa 7s.

Biography: All-time top 5 Try scorer with 219 tries and 1,095 points in his 7s career, the Springbok flyer is certainly one to watch and will be looking to set Mong Kok Stadium alight with his electrifying speed.

Name: Pieter-Steph Du Toit

Super Rugby:  27 appearances (Sharks), 14 (DHL Stormers)

South Africa: 32 appearances

Biography: Former Cell C Sharks player Pieter-Steph Du Toit has joined the DHL Stormers for the 2017/18 Super Rugby season.

 


Fun Fact:
Three of the current DHL Stormers were involved in the 34-32 defeat to Japan at the 2015 Rugby World Cup. Pieter-Steph Du Toi, Eben Etzebeth and Siya Kolisi were unable to steer the Springboks to victory against the Brave Blossoms that day and will have another chance against a Hito-Communications Sunwolves side many believe will be the Japanese national squad for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
