Brett Wilkinson was born in Grahamstown South Africa. Brett then signed a professional rugby contract in Ireland for provincial team Connacht in 2006. Brett played in Ireland from 2006-2014 where Brett achieved 183 Connacht Caps, Brett also represented Ireland where he got awarded with 6 Ireland A caps and played in a uncapped game for Ireland Vs the Barbarians.
Brett was forced to retire from rugby in 2014 due to a serious neck injury and transitioned straight into coaching, where he coached Buccaneers RFC in Athlone to promotion into 1A of the All Ireland League. Brett won Connacht club coach of the year in 2016/2017
Brett then moved to Hong Kong to take up a coaching role with the Hong Kong Rugby Union and HKCC now HKU Sandy Bay RFC. Brett had a role previous as the Hong Kong U20 forwards coach that competed in the Junior World Trophy in Romania. Brett received the Hong Kong club coach of the year in 2018/2019.
