HKRU CONGRATULATES MORGAN WHITE ON APPOINTMENT TO WORLD RUGBY SEVENS CHALLENGER SERIES

09日 8月 2022

The HKRU is pleased to congratulate Morgan White on his referee appointment to the World Rugby Challenger Series for the first time.

Morgan is a familiar face around Hong Kong rugby pitches, having been born and raised here into a rugby-loving family. Morgan played rugby with his two brothers throughout his childhood and early 20s, featuring for Kroll USRC Tigers in Premiership A.

Morgan’s dad was also a senior figure within refereeing, so when Morgan finally took up the whistle in 2018, he quickly discovered he was a natural and the rest is history. Morgan has been on the Asia Rugby Referee Panel for the last few years and has refereed in the Asian Series, Olympic Qualifiers and has travelled to Dubai, New Zealand and South Africa for development opportunities.

Matt Rodden, Head of Refereeing for the HKRU is thrilled about another local Hong Kong ref being offered a global opportunity: “We couldn’t be happier to showcase another of our homegrown talents on the world stage. This is an opportunity that Morgan has worked hard for and that he deserves.”

“Morgan’s biggest strengths as a referee are his athletic ability, his calm nature and his accuracy - all things that come in handy on a 7s pitch.”

Morgan remains humble about his appointment but is keen to stress how grateful he is for the support he’s received: “Being part of the HKRU Performance Referee group has provided me with the tools I need to maintain a high level of performance. A big thank you to the Hong Kong Rugby Union and Hong Kong Rugby Referees Society for their support and facilitating my development as a match official. I look forward to representing Hong Kong at the competition and showing young up and coming rugby officials what can be achieved, and hopefully encourage others to pick up the whistle.”
