HONG KONG REFEREES BUSY OFF SEASON

22日 8月 2016

Hong Kong’s referees have been busy during the League off season with a number of noteable appointments at home and abroad.

Gabriel Lee represented Hong Kong superbly at the Rio Olympics, a culmination of years of hard work with a number of appointments over the 3 day competition. Our congratulations to Gabriel on a fantastic achievement.

HKRU Junior Academy Referee Steven Yuen had his first Asia Rugby appointment at the U20 7s tournament here in Hong Kong. This was a fantastic achievement for Steven and he refereed outstandingly over the two days. The appointment was on the back of his strong performance at the recent Asian Schools 7s tournament also held in Hong Kong.

Steven was joined on the referee team by Matt Rodden and Patrick Kwok who did a superb job refereeing the final. A large number of development referees made up the Assistant Referee team and provided fantastic experience for them as we prepare for the upcoming Asian Sevens Series.

Currently, HKRU Junior Academy Referees William Tiller and Harry Parsons are in Manila to referee the two leg Junior Warriors tour of the Philippines. This marks the second time William has refereed the Warriors tour and follows on from Harry’s recent selection to referee at the Rosslyn Park 7s in London.

Tim Baker is currently jetting his way to the UK where he will referee in the Scottish Premiership and English Championship. A fantastic opportunity for Tim and to strengthen Hong Kong’s ties with the UK.

One of our newest members, Craig Chan, has been selected to travel with the Hong Kong Tertiary team to Taiwan and will referee their two matches at the end of the month. This is a fantastic development opportunity for Craig who has recently started refereeing after playing a number of years for the TSW Pandas.

All our referee will be busy during the pre season and this will kick off with our dual elite and community conferences on the 27th and 28th of August.
