THE TONY HO FOUNDATION HOSTS ITS FIRST EVER HONG KONG RUGBY SUMMER CAMP

The Tony

Ho foundation held its first ever Hong Kong based Rugby Summer Camp at the Hong Kong International School this summer, 15-19th August 2019. The camp welcomed aspiring rugby players between 5 and 19 years old.

We were delighted to welcome back John Barclay as coach of the tournament, who inspired young rugby enthusiasts through his experience playing in, and captaining the Scotland National Team. The camps aim was simple: provide an opportunity for kids to play more rugby and develop their knowledge and understanding of the game. Over the five days, players enjoyed a heap of organised matches, sport-specific coaching, strength & conditioning, and tactical skills/awareness training. The skills and experience gained by the players over the camp will no doubt benefit them in their endeavours to become great rugby players.

The camp attendees were largely made up of Lions, in addition to a strong contingent from Ying Wa college and Cheung Sha Wan Catholic Secondary School. Some participants travelled from overseas after seeing an advertisement in the Hong Kong Newsletter. We were delighted to have such a great turn out for the camp and wish to continue developing the Tony Ho Foundation Rugby Camp in the future, inspiring more and more children to take up the sport.

Background on the Tony Ho foundation:

Tony Ho was a promising young rugby player from Hong Kong who was tragically murdered in 2010 whilst studying at Bradford University.  As a keen and talented rugby player, volunteer coach and enthusiastic supporter of the game, Tony's easy-going, polite and fun personality made a great impression with everyone who met him.

In his memory, his former school, Mount St Mary, the HKRU and Kowloon RFC have supported the Tony Ho Memorial Scholarship, which helps fund a group of Hong Kong students to travel to the UK and attend the Tony Ho Rugby Camp. We are now delighted to announce the extension of this initiative with the first ever summer camp in Hong Kong!
