TOP COACHES LOOKING FOR A HAPPY NEW YEAR

06日 12月 2017

This year's 51st Prudential New Year's Day Youth Tournament is set to be a cracker, with some of the Union's top coaching talent taking up the 1st January challenge.

The Overseas U16 Boys will be put through their paces by current National Sevens Head Coach Paul John, the man who famously guided Wales to Sevens World Cup glory in 2009. The Under 16 fixture sees Hong Kong youngsters studying overseas take on those who are based here, and John will be hoping he can help his team avenge a Hong Kong win last year. Hong Kong also took the honours, and the Lassies Quaich, in the Girls U19 fixture against their Overseas counterparts, and they will be gunning for a repeat performance under the watchful management of the experienced Manoj Dhar.

Meanwhile the U19 Overseas Boys will have the benefit of the combined wisdom of coaching gurus Dai Rees and Leigh Jones, both veterans of international rugby over many years; the Overseas side are the current holders of the Middlesex Cup thanks to a gripping 19-17 win, but the Hong Kong lads will be hoping to change that situation.

A total of 9 matches will fill this packed day that showcases the best of our youth rugby talent, with boys and girls fixtures from U12s through to U19s. As always, the tournament will be kindly hosted by the Hong Kong Football Club, and as anyone who has experienced the very special atmosphere of this event, there truly is no better way to see in the new year...honest!
