THE ASIAN SCHOOL RUGBY SEVENS CHAMPIONSHIP RETURNS TO HONG KONG FOR ITS 4TH EDITION

PUBLISHED ON 30 JUL 2025
We are excited to announce the return of the Asian School Rugby Sevens Championship, with the 4th edition of the tournament scheduled to take place at King’s Park Sports Ground on 9-10 August 2025.
This tournament traditionally occurs every three years, however, was unfortunately cancelled in 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hong Kong China won the first three editions of the Championship, with the last tournament being held in Malaysia in 2019.
Hong Kong China will proudly host the tournament this year alongside the Schools Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China. We have confirmed participation from representative teams from the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Thailand.
In order to play for Hong Kong China and qualify for this tournament, players must be studying in Hong Kong and have resided in the region for a minimum of three years. In total, there have been over 100 nominations from schools across Hong Kong and, after several weeks of intensive training, a final squad of twelve U18 players has been selected to represent Hong Kong China in the tournament.
This tournament plays a key role in developing talent, with notable alumni including Paul Altier, Jack Abbott and Liam Herbert, who all competed in previous editions, now playing for the Hong Kong China Men’s XVs and 7s squads.
We are pleased to have Hysan as a sponsor for this event and with four members of the HKCR Hysan Academy also securing spots in the final squad: Lu Ho Sun, Kaze Ndassi Denzel Edward, Li Tak Nam, and Leung Tik Wai Tane.
Join us at King’s Park Sports Ground to cheer on the boys as they strive to defend the title. Entry is free of charge, and the Clubhouse will be open for refreshments.
Play times:
- Saturday 9 August – 12PM to 6PM
- Sunday 10 August – 9:30AM to 4PM
Match scores will also be available via the hkrugby.com Match Centre.
