Hong Kong China Men’s and Women’s 7s head to the United Kingdom later this week, where they will take part in the Oxford 7s. The teams will compete as development squads, with several senior players also selected to bring experience to the travelling group.
The tournament takes place on Saturday 17 May and is the first leg in the LIT Super 7s Series. In all, four legs will be played: the Shelford 7s (7 June), the National Pub 7s (21 June), and the Bury St Edmund 7s (5 July).
The LITS Super 7s Series is a recent merger between the UK Super Sevens Series and the LIT7s Series, helping create one of the biggest and most prestigious rugby sevens series in Europe. As well as the Elite competition that Hong Kong China teams will play in, there will be Open and Social competitions for men’s and women’s teams.
Paul John, Head of the Hong Kong China 7s Programme, said, “The LIT Super Sevens Series offers us the opportunity to compete in quality competitions and gives players the experience of playing outside Asia against experienced and well-established 7s teams.
“We have competed in the Super Sevens Series for the last three or four seasons and as a result have also been able to connect with European-based Hong Kong players, while giving our squad players invaluable playing experience that we cannot get from training.”
