TALENT TESTING DAY SET FOR SUNDAY 1 DECEMBER

TALENT TESTING DAY SET FOR SUNDAY 1 DECEMBER

PUBLISHED ON 18 NOV 2024

Hong Kong China Rugby (HKCR), in collaboration with the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI), the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) and Youth We Go, will be holding a Talent Testing Day at the HKSI on Sunday 1 December.

The event is the launch of an exciting new initiative to recruit young talent into elite-level rugby. The project is being led by Salom Yiu Kam Shing, who is the Hong Kong China Men’s 7s record cap holder and a double Asian Games Gold Medallist. Salom himself only started playing rugby as an 18-year-old, after previously competing in athletics at the youth level.

The Talent Testing Day is led by a promotional campaign with the tagline “Are you the next Hong Kong China Rugby superstar?” which is targeted at schools across Hong Kong and gives teachers the chance to nominate students in the age U16, U18 and U20 categories. In all 150-200 youngsters with no prior rugby experience will be welcomed to the HKSI to complete seven skill and endurance tests on Sunday 1 December (10 AM-6PM).

Schools, organisations and sports associations are all invited to nominate participants, and can do so by completing the form at: www.cognitoforms.com/HongKongChinaRugby1/_2024人材選拔日TalentTestingDay

All test scores are collated and analysed before the best performers are invited back to HKSI on Saturday 7 December. They will receive awards and be given the opportunity to join the HKCR Talent ID Academy, where they will train alongside the city’s brightest young stars.

In early 2025, further testing days will be held both at HKSI as well as through roadshow events in regional district hubs.
