Peter represented Canterbury and New Zealand Universities, playing for the latter against Hong Kong in 1970
After arriving in Hong Kong in 1973, having retired from serious rugby, Peter coached the Hong Kong team against the national teams, of Wales Scotland and France between 1976- 1979 when those teams stopped over on their way to Japan
Thereafter he coached both the Hong Kong team andFootball Club teams from time to time
Peter served on the committee of the HKRU for many years, initially as Chairman of Selectors, and later as Directorof Development. He was one of the principal instigators of the development program commenced in the early 1980s
He was the Chairman of the Union between 1998 and 1999 and 1997 to 2000
He also served as President of the Asian Rugby Union during his second tenure as Chairman of the HKRU
Peter was appointed President of the Union in 2016
Chris Brooke is the HKRU Chairman.
Chris has lived in Hong Kong since 1979 and played rugby for Valley RFC throughout the 1990’s and early 2000’s. He also represented Hong Kong in a number of Asian Tournament and World Cup Qualifying matches between 1999 and 2001. Chris then lived in Beijing for eleven years, where he helped drive the growth of the Sports Beijing mini rugby programme, prior to returning to Hong Kong at the end of 2013.
Chris is a Chartered Surveyor by profession and has worked in the property sector in Hong Kong and the Asia Pacific region for the last twenty-eight years, providing strategic advice to both public and private sector organisations in relation to all aspects of property development, ownership and occupation.
Chris is married to Christine and has two children.
Martin Murray is Finance Director of Swire Pacific Limited. He is also a Non-Executive Director of Swire Properties.
Martin was previously Chief Financial Officer of Cathay Pacific. Prior to joining Cathay Pacific in November 2011, Mr Murray was Deputy Finance Director of Swire Pacific Limited – a post he took up in August 2009.
Formerly with Ernst & Young in Scotland and Hong Kong, Mr Murray joined the Swire group in January 1995 and worked for the group in the Hong Kong SAR, the USA, Singapore and Australia. His roles included Manager Treasury, Finance Director Trading Division, Finance Director of the Shipping Division and Finance Director of John Swire & Sons Pty Ltd.
Mr Murray graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1988 with a Bachelor of Accountancy degree. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland and the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is married with two children.
Robert's first exposure to HK Rugby began with minis in the 2003/4 season, coaching at (then) DeA Tigers with two children in the U6's. He joined the HKSRFUR in 2004, continued to coach minis at DeA for the next 10 years, U6-U12, and also represented the club on the Girls' Committee. During this period he obtained World Rugby Coaching & Refereeing certificates, Levels 1 & 2. A keen referee at many levels of the game from 2004-present, Robert has refereed more than 500 matches in Seniors and Youth, with more in minis and other fixtures.
Professionally, Robert is currently President APAC for a well-known global footwear brand, and Chairman of their China operations. He has been in Asia since 1990, living in HK most of that time but including some other regional postings in fashion, retail, lifestyle and consumer brands. An early graduate student in Beijing, he speaks both Mandarin & Cantonese. Robert's wife Priscilla is from Hong Kong and he has two children who have grown up with the game here, playing in the NAG program.
Olly has lived and worked in Hong Kong since 1988 and has been actively involved in Hong Kong rugby for over 30 years. Upon arrival in Hong Kong, he joined Valley RFC and continues to play community league and veterans rugby. He became involved with the minis at Valley Fort as a U5 coach in 2010 and served as Chairman of Valley Fort from 2014 to 2017, overseeing all mini and youth rugby, social and commercial activities. Subsequently he was elected Chairman of the Hong Kong Mini Rugby Football Union, a role he has held from 2017 to 2022, providing leadership of Hong Kong’s mini rugby program encompassing 21 clubs, over 4,000 young players, parent and professional coaches, administrators and referees. In these roles he worked closely with stakeholders in the HKRU and across the rugby community.
Olly is a management consultant with Alvarez & Marsal as part of the Asia leadership team working with local and multinational private equity and corporate clients on growth and performance improvement. He earned a Masters in Engineering from Cambridge University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Olly is married to Jennifer and his son Andrew, now playing U18, has been through the mini and youth system at Valley Fort.
Tony has lived in Hong Kong since 1996 and has been actively involved in Hong Kong rugby for over 20 years. During that period, he has served as Chairman for Discovery Bay Pirates, club representative for Mini and Youth committees, U12 Richard Hawkes Cup and Kim Lam Cup coordinator. He has managed National Age Grade teams as well as the Overseas Youth Team on New Years Day and holds a World Rugby Level One Coaching & Referee certificate. Tony was also a member of the full General Committee for USRC Tigers and managed the Senior Premiership team for three years.
Tony is an IT professional and is currently employed for New Balance Limited as part of the Asia Pacific leadership team. He has a Masters in Management from Macquarie University in Sydney.
Tony is married to Irene and has two boys that have come through the mini and youth rugby pathway, both representing Hong Kong at U20s.
From his childhood in
Shek Kip Mei, Rod understood the difficulties faced by grassroots families in
providing the guidance needed by their children. He believes rugby can play an
important part in nurturing our children with the sport’s positive values.
Besides the role as a team captain, Rod was the Chairman of City Rugby from 2010 to 2019. He has facilitated partnerships among clubs from Premiership, Community, Tertiary, Youth and Minis levels.
Rod participated in representative team management when he was the Team Manager of Hong Kong Senior Warriors. He has also coached a local youth team at Twisters RFC before coaching the multi-cultural HKUST team. Rod and his HKUST team have won the first-ever USFHK Rugby Champion for the university.
Rod has completed his MBA in HKUST and Imperial College London. He is experienced in the banking and finance sector focusing on the China market. He is currently the Managing Director of a leading bank in Hong Kong.
Rod is married to Lianna and his son Marvin is now participating in mini rugby.
David has been involved in Hong Kong rugby since 2014 and has previously experienced the club game in Scotland, the USA and Singapore. He has served for five years on the Committee of Kowloon Rugby Club, with one year as Secretary and four years as Treasurer and continues to play social league rugby for Kowloon in the front row of the Beavers. Prior to joining the Board, he supported the Union as a member of the Marketing Committee, South China Tigers commercial advisory group, and Governance working group.
David is a Partner in the financial services practice of a global consulting firm and has over 20 years of experience in working on governance, risk management and regulatory issues in the financial services sector. He has a law degree from the University of Glasgow. He is married to Jessica and has two daughters, Charlotte and Sophie, both of whom have played mini and youth rugby in Hong Kong.
Gill Meller is MTR Corporation Limited’s Legal and Governance Director. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing the Company’s legal, company secretarial, insurance and risk management functions and a central procurement and supply chain function. She is also responsible for leading the Company’s assurance function with the aim of providing a strengthened second line of defence across key risk areas of the Company and for leading MTR’s overall ESG strategy. Gill graduated from Hertford College, University of Oxford and obtained her postgraduate qualifications in law from The College of Law in the United Kingdom. She is qualified to practise as a solicitor in Hong Kong and England and Wales. Gill is a vice chairman of the Legal Committee of The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Listing Committee of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited, immediate Past President and ex-officio council member of The Hong Kong Chartered Governance Institute.
Brett has lived in Hong Kong since 1990 and has worked in the media and government sectors for more than 40 years. He was a journalist in Australia, the UK and Hong Kong from 1980 until joining the Hong Kong Government’s media and PR department in 1993. As the department’s Deputy Director from 2014-2021 he oversaw international PR, media relations, branding, promotions, events and stakeholder engagement as well as human and financial resources management. Brett is a great believer in the power of events – big and small – to enrich a city’s brand and make life more enjoyable for residents and visitors. He has served as an official member of the Major Sports Event Committee and the former Mega Events Fund.
He is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Directors, a Senior Executive Fellow of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and is reasonably proficient in spoken Cantonese. Brett is married to Carrie, a Sichuan native, and has two daughters. He is an avid hiker.
Josh is the Asia-Pacific CEO of Teneo’s Financial Advisory practice, a CEO advisory firm owned by CVC Capital Partners. Previously he was a Strategy and Transaction Partner with EY-Parthenon, leading the value creation and turnaround practice in Hong Kong and the lead client partner for a number of the firms’ priority financial services and private capital clients. He has 20 years’ experience working in finance across Asia and Europe, which builds upon a background in performance leadership as a former British Army Officer and in Professional Rugby.
He graduated from Bristol, is an INSEAD alumni, has studied law and finance, received an MBA from Imperial, has been awarded a Doctorate and MBE and is a Visiting Professor of Leadership with ULBS in London.
Having joined the Hong Kong, China Rugby in 2003 as the Community Rugby Manager, Robbie assumed the role of CEO in May 2017. Prior to the Union, he spent 11 years in the Hong Kong Police Force, where he served in a number of roles including presenter of the "Police Report" TV show. He has a MA (Oxon) and completed a PGC in Sports & Recreation Management at HKU Space in 2001. He is a Director of the local charity Operation Breakthrough and was instrumental in setting up the HKCR Community Foundation – Rugby For Good, both of which use sport as a medium to tackle social issues. He was awarded a MBE in 2019 for services to philanthropy and UK-Hong Kong relations.
Rocky graduated at the University of Canberra with a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Administration; a fitness industry executive with over 20 years of experience in the management and operation of multinational health and wellbeing corporations. He joins the HKRU from California Fitness, where he has assumed a variety of roles over a 16-year tenure.
A familiar face in local rugby circles, Rocky is a long-standing member of the Hong Kong Rugby community and has been integrally involved with the development of Gai Wu RFC, one of Hong Kong’s pioneering Chinese rugby clubs. He currently still represents Gai Wu’s first XV as a hooker.
He also represented the Hong Kong Dragons in the early 1990s being selected for tours to Singapore and Thailand. Prior to that Rocky played for Tigers RFC in the early 1990s becoming one of the first local players to play first division rugby in Hong Kong.
David is the Chief Financial Officer and oversees all Accounting and Financing of the Group. David also sits on the Investment Committee. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant under the ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountant in England & Wales) and trained with PricewaterhouseCoopers both in the UK and Hong Kong prior to joining the Union. David graduated from The University of Birmingham and achieved a masters degree from the same institution. David is a keen sportsman having been a competitive swimmer and represented his university at Water Polo. He now enjoys a variety of sports at a recreational level.
Lucy Clarke is the Chief of Medical Services at the Hong Kong Rugby Union. Her role includes providing clinical governance, expertise and leadership across all areas of player welfare and medical.
Lucy joined HKRU in 2013 being tasked with establishing a medical department within HKRU structure and strategic plan. Previous work experience includes establishing and running a Hong Kong based medical training centre reaching throughout Asia, teaching in-hospital emergency care and pre-hospital immediate care in sports.
Having originally trained as a nurse, Lucy has continued her studies with a Post Graduate Diploma in Management and a Post Graduate Certificate in Health Professionals Education. She is a World Rugby Medical Trainer.
Nathan Stewart is the General Manager Training and Development at the Hong Kong Rugby Union. His role includes coordinating staff development initiatives, in addition to developing a vocational pathway for those looking to pursue a career in the sport and recreation industry.
Nathan is an advocate for lifelong learning, which is supported by his academic background which includes a Master of Exercise Science, Master of Rehabilitation Science, Graduate Diploma in Exercise & Sports Science and Bachelor of Applied Science in Physical Education.
Nathan is married to Leith and has one daughter, Isla.
Bryan is the General Manager, Commercial and Business Development. He joined HKRU in 2019 having previously served as General Manager of Hong Kong Scottish Rugby Club since 2014. Raised in South Africa, Bryan spent 10 years in the UK playing professional rugby with The Border Reivers, Exeter Chiefs and Bristol Rugby before moving to Hong Kong. Bryan holds a honours degree in Leadership and Management from Northumbria University and is a Level 3 qualified rugby coach who helped coach Hong Kong U20 during two Junior World Trophies in 2016 and 2017.
Bryan is co-owner and Director of Rugby Tots Hong Kong and when he's not chasing his energetic daughter Rylie around, Bryan can be found near a braai (barbeque) or in the ocean near Sai Kung.
Aaron is the General Manager Events and the Hong Kong Sevens Tournament Director at the Hong Kong Rugby Union. His role includes leading the Events department to create and deliver best practise and fan focussed events that increase the profile of rugby and the reputation of the HKRU. As the Sevens Tournament Director, Aaron takes the lead role in the operational planning and delivery of the world famous Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens.
Prior to joining the HKRU, he was Competitions Manager for Asia Rugby overseeing and delivering all competitions from the Asia Rugby Championship through to its premier age-grade tournaments. Aaron also acted as the tournament director in the regional games of the 2018 Asian Games and the 2017 SEA Games and was the match commissioner of the Olympic Qualifier 2015.
Aaron was a keen sportsperson having been a competitive swimmer and captaining his native country, New Zealand in Water Polo at several World Championships.
Jo is the HKRU General Manager Rugby Performance. Jo has worked for Hong Kong Rugby for eight years, and initially worked as the Head of Women’s Performance Rugby before taking on the General Manager role in May 2022. As a Level 4 Coach, Jo has worked in rugby for over 20 years. Prior to Hong Kong, Jo worked for Scottish Rugby as the Head of Women’s Rugby Performance, as well as coaching a Men’s Premiership team in Canada.
