27th Nov 2023

Hong Kong China Rugby (HKCR) is delighted to announce the successful completion of the first training block of the Hysan HKCR Academy. In collaboration with Hysan Development Company Limited (Hysan), the academy aims to identify and develop talented Hong Kong-based players, providing them with the best opportunities to excel in the sport within the current season and in their future careers. The intensive five-week training block concluded on 15th November.

Targeted at U19’s & U16’s age groups for both males and females. The Hysan HKCR Academy comprises three active training blocks, providing support and development within three key areas: Physical attributes, Rugby skills and Psychosocial development. The first training block, which commenced on 16th October, featured intensive sessions every Monday and Wednesday over a five-week period.

The 40 participating players engaged in weekly comprehensive strength and conditioning training, to enhance their physical attributes with a strong emphasis on developing essential rugby skills. On the field, coaches conducted technical training to enhance core rugby skills including catch-passing, tackling, and breakdown work. Specific rugby techniques such as scrummaging and kicking were also incorporated, while technical drills and game-based skill sets were integrated to ensure a well-rounded training experience and prepared them for the challenges of senior rugby. In addition to on-field training, players participated in sessions on setting goals, time management, communication, and received education on the importance and impact of medical support. They also engaged in group sessions involving the decision-making process.

Sian Moore, Head of Performance Pathways at HKCR, expressed excitement for the Hysan HKCR Academy and highlighted several promising young players. "The academy aims to up-skill the young rugby players, empowering them to excel at the highest level of the sport.
