The HKRU has announced that the Nominating Committee established to select three Independent Directors to be appointed to the Board of Directors of the organisation has formally nominated Gill Meller, Brett Free and Josh Lewsey to join the Board of Directors. These Independent Directors will take up their positions with immediate effect with the term of their appointment continuing until the Annual General Meeting of the HKRU in 2024.

The addition of Independent Directors to the Board was unanimously agreed by the Members of the Union at an Extraordinary General Meeting in 2022 and will further strengthen and broaden the skills set of the existing Board which consists of eight elected Directors.

HKRU Chairman Chris Brooke noted; “The nomination and selection process has been robust and rigorous, and we were very fortunate to have a range of excellent candidates who were interested to volunteer their time to support the HKRU and our rugby community.

I would like to express the appreciation of the HKRU to both the Nominating Committee and Russell Reynolds & Associates, which provided very valuable professional and administrative support in relation to the process.

The three individuals which have been chosen, have outstanding experience and expertise in their professional fields, and I know both my fellow Directors and the HKRU management team are very much looking forward to working with them in the months ahead.”
