HKRU TYPHOON MANGKHUT VENUE DISRUPTION NOTICE

04th Oct 2018

Members of the Hong Kong Rugby community are advised that due to damage of local venues in the wake of Typhoon Mangkhut, numerous local league matches and competitions will be affected by the closure of certain grounds.

Three grounds are closed at present for repairs: Aberdeen Sports Ground, Tin Shui Wai Community Sports Ground and Police Boundary Street.

During the ongoing recovery and restoration of these grounds significant disruption is expected across the HKRU Senior, Schools and Youth league competitions due to scheduling pressure and a lack of available facilities to accommodate all matches and competitions requiring a change in venue.

The HKRU appreciates the community’s support and patience while we seek to accommodate all rugby on the most convenient terms possible.  We remain in contact with LCSD, ground management and other relevant parties to facilitate the earliest possible return of use of the grounds in question.

Earliest indications are that the grounds affected will be opened along the following timelines:

 Aberdeen Sports Ground:

Roof damage, estimated 6 weeks pitch closure, expected re-opening: November.

Tin Shui Wai Community Sports Ground:

Damage from fallen netting, replacement of netting to begin immediately, expected re-opening: mid-December.

In the interim, clubs are alerted to the following potential changes or disruptions to domestic competitions given the severe storm damage.

Senior Leagues

Up to eight senior games per week will be moved from the TSW ground.

These matches maybe played at different venues or postponed to the dedicated make up weekends. Announcements of any change in venues or postponed fixtures will be made on Monday's.

Schools Competitions

Division 2 Sevens league:

All New Territories league games will be moved from TSW to Kings Park after the completion of the KLN/IS District competition.

Youth Rugby:

Cancellations are likely given that seven weeks of scheduled Sunday fixtures would need to be accommodated without back-up venue options at present.  Announcements of any cancelled Youth fixtures and competitions will be made shortly.
