20th Oct 2023

Hong Kong China Rugby is delighted to announce two international test matches against Germany this November, on Tuesday,14th (at So Kon Po Recreation Ground, kick-off at 7pm HKT) and on Saturday, 18th (at Aberdeen Sports Ground, kick- off at 4.30pm HKT).

Germany, currently ranked 32nd in the world, will face off against Hong Kong China, who are currently eight ahead. The two teams are no strangers to each other, with the most recent encounter Germany’s win in the 2018 Rugby World Cup Repechage in Marseille.

“Germany presents an exciting challenge for HKCR. They have already competed in the European championship and faced strong teams like Georgia this year, indicating their readiness for this upcoming series. Our objective is to enhance the depth of our squad by integrating young talents, recently qualified representatives from Hong Kong China, and veteran players. The prospect of awarding caps to players who represented HKC at the U20 World Trophy in Kenya is particularly thrilling,” said Andrew Douglas, Hong Kong China men’s 15s team Head Coach.

“I am eager to identify exceptional talent that can take us into the ARC's next June. The challenge posed by Germany is something I eagerly anticipate, as it will be a significant test for our team.” Andrew added..

"We are delighted to host our friends from Germany. This is an exciting opportunity for our players to gain valuable experience and measure their abilities against a strong international side." said Mr. Robbie McRobbie, CEO of Hong Kong China Rugby.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for us. The team will be spending a full week together, likely facing entirely new conditions, which will offer them fresh insights they may not have encountered before. This experience holds something truly special for the players. Last but not least, it also promises to be a great contribution to team building.", said Germany’s national coach Mark Kuhlmann.

Due to venue constraints, the first match on November 14th will be an invitation-only event. However, supporters and rugby enthusiasts can enjoy the action through live streaming on the Hong Kong China Rugby YouTube channel. The second match, scheduled for 18th November at Aberdeen Sports Ground, will be open for public ticket sales, with general admission ticketing priced at HK$100 for adults, and children 12 and under 12 free of charge.
