HONG KONG CHINA RUGBY U18S TAKE FLIGHT!

28th Sep 2023

[28 September 2023] The Hong Kong China Rugby U18 Sevens squads have departed today for the Asia Rugby U18 Boys and Girls 7s Tournament, held in Taiwan this weekend.

Following a refresh of the youth academy programme and the recent investment in top quality pathway and performance leadership, we are looking forward to seeing how our young players perform in this exciting competition.

Boys head coach Tomos Howells is looking forward to a competitive weekend in Pool B with Malaysia, Iran and India.

“There’s been a lot of great development in this programme since we last played in the tournament. As well as playing for their local HK clubs, a core group of these players are involved with the HKSI Academy and we have several players who also played in the U20s Trophy earlier this month. Things have started to come together really nicely over the last few weeks and we’re really excited to see them play.”

Girls head coach Jack Combes is equally positive about their prospects in the tournament, with the squad set to take on in a very competitive pool featuring UAE, India, Thailand, and Chinese Taipei.

“Our squad are all HK based, really enjoying their club rugby and starting to transition into the senior teams for their clubs which is fantastic and a great caliber of rugby for them. We had some of these players perform very well in the recent U20s tournament and we’re all looking forward to seeing what happens this weekend. The aim is to come away with a gold medal”.
