The 2019/20 domestic rugby league was originally scheduled to conclude this Saturday, however in support of the Government’s efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus in the community all rugby activities have been suspended since Chinese New Year.
Whilst the Government yesterday did reopen some outdoor leisure venues including tennis courts and jogging tracks, remaining facilities including sports grounds and LCSD sports programmes continue to be closed until further notice – this is to avoid people gathering and to foster social distancing as virus containment efforts continue at this critical juncture.
The HKRU Board and Management have therefore decided that based on the continued closure of grounds and in support of the virus containment efforts the 2019/20 domestic rugby league is now concluded; when the Government deems it sensible to reopen pitches we will look at the option of organising some stand-alone tournaments for those who are interested. For those divisions that had already been decided prior to CNY, the winning team will be recognised as the league champions – no champions will be declared in the other divisions.
In summary;
We’d like to thank all players, coaches, match officials, medics, physios, and volunteers for your efforts throughout what has been unfortunately a very disrupted season.
