TIGERS TIP KOWLOON IN KEY RESULT OF SUPER SATURDAY SHOWDOWN

Gai Wu Falcons, Kroll USRC Tigers and Societe Generale Valley were the victors of the Nan Fung Group | SEWIT Hong Kong Women’s Premiership Super Saturday at King’s Park Sports Ground.

 

It was the Falcons who got the day started with some sublime play in the opening match, outlasting SCAA Causeway Bay Phoenix to finish as easy winners, 64-5. Early tries went to Man Yuen Yan and Oyinlola Kim Lee, with Charmaine Da Costa adding the extras to see Gai Wu open up a 14-0 half-time lead.

 

Some clever footwork and a barnstorming run from Gai Wu’s Hui Man-ling after the break got her side to advance the scoreline to 19-0.  Before the Falcons took over completely, Ho Hau Yan from Phoenix scored Causeway Bay's first and only to see them trailing Gai Yu 5-19. 

 

The pace and class of the Falcons attack then kicked in, and Shek Ching Yi completed a hat trick afterwards, with Au King To, Abigail Chan and Lee Wing Yan all getting in on the fun with tries, while Fung Hoi Ching slotted five conversions for the victors to see Gai Wu Falcons finish 64-5. 

 

The match between Kroll USRC Tigers and DAC Kowloon was not short of action, with plenty of tries and some slick play in a match Tigers won 27-20.  Tess Proos scored the first try after just 53 seconds after the kick-off to put Kowloon on the board leading 5-0. Scores were level at 5-5 after the opening eighteen minutes, with Tigers hitting the scoreboard via Cheung Ho Ying. It took until the 26-minute mark for Tigers to get another 3 points when Lo Wong Yin slotted a surprise drop goal to extend Tigers’ lead to 8-5. Chong Ka Yan notched her side another try taking Tigers a 13-5 lead into the break.

 

On the restart, both teams withstood pressure until Kowloon’s Montana Heslop seized the ball and placed in the left corner to close the gap to 13-10.

 

Tigers were soon on the attack again, Au Yeung Sin Yi took the opportunity at the back of USRC Tigers’ scrum, touching down and Poon Hoi Yan added the extras to make it 20-10.

 

In a tense finish, a slashing run from Kiana Rae put Kowloon on the scoreboard again , trailing 15-20. Tigers’ Ho Tsz Wu was the next to score and with the successful conversion stretched the lead to 27-15. Jane Morrison from Kowloon replied with a final try of the match and brought the final score to 27-20.

 

The top-of-the-table contest between HKFC and Valley began with an intense first quarter. The deadlock was eventually broken at 14 minutes, when HKFC picked up the momentum and Jamie Bourk secured the opening score. The conversion was good and HKFC led Valley 7-0. 

 

Valley wrested momentum back afterwards, with talisman Bella Milo bringing the first try for Valley after a successful strike. She then converted her own try to level the score at 7-7.

 

Bella Milo was then given two penalty opportunities from the tee before the break, slotting all to give Valley a 13-7 lead before her teammates keep putting pressure and edging closer and closer to the score line until Valley notched another try. 

 

Valley continued their run of good form after the break. Haruka Uematsu took the pop pass and dove across the line, a fantastic try created by Inside Centre Rumeng Wu, with the conversion from Bella Milo pushing Valley ahead 27-7.

 

Valley controlled matters for the rest of the game, accounting for most of the ball possession with lots of offloads and tackles, adding 3 more tries by Tanya Dhar, Katrina Roszynski and Tyler Botha, widening the gap to 44-7 with 10 minutes left. 

 

A deserving try from Cheryl Gourley and conversion from Rachel Fong from Ice saw a final score of Valley 44-14 HKFC.
